Yes. If you would prefer to paint your pottery in the comfort of your own home, or at your own venue we can supply everything you will need (paints, brushes etc). This is a great option for birthday parties, corporate events, dinner parties etc.
We charge a refundable deposit of £20 for the hire of supplies and we ask that you return your pot and supplies to us within one week. We will then glaze your creations for collection.
If you would prefer not to return your pottery for glazing we also sell acrylic paint and foam clay kits (no deposit required). You will see examples and more details on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/thepaintingpotselby).
Yes. At your expense we will be happy to post nationally and even worldwide.
Although we package items extremely well pottery is fragile and unpredictable. Should your item get broken in transit we will offer you a replacement or a full refund.
Unlike some studios we do not charge a studio fee. The price of our pottery is all inclusive (of paint, glaze, the use of any tools, glazing and firing).
Don't worry. We have a selection of stencils, stamps and sponges that will help. We also have lots of insirational suggestions on our website and Facebook pages. Why not also take a look at our Pinterest page which is packed with examples and ideas. We are also on hand to help with advice and suggestions - just ask.
Some pots are easier to paint than others and many incorporate patterns and sections that you simply 'colour in' with paint. We have something available for all abilities.
Booking isn't usually necessary but is essential during Covid restructions. We do however recommend you reserve a table at other times for groups of 6 or more to be sure of us accommodating you.
Simply pop along any time during opening hours. If we are full, we can always take your mobile phone number and give you a call as soon as a table becomes available.
Most definitely. The paints that we use are water-based, non-toxic paints and glazes which are washable. We do also provide aprons to protect clothing.
The simple answer would be yes, because we know from experience that glazed pottery is generally fine in a dishwasher and microwave. However, because our pottery is ceramic earthenware, it is porous and traps moisture. Therefore, it only takes one small crack to appear and moisture will seep in and could potentially cause damage over time.
So, the answer is yes, but at your own risk.
Glazed pottery is of course food safe too.
Any age group can paint pottery! Pre-schoolers need a little more assistance from parents to get started but even babies can put their hand and foot print onto their pottery. However, because of the materials used, individual painting is suitable for over 3 years of age.
Really young children may be finished and get bored after an hour or so, in which case you may need to come back to finish your own creation without the kids.
Pottery painting is a really relaxing and stress busting activity. Something you can immerse yourself in on your own, or share a fun time with family, colleagues and friends. So, it really is a great activity for anyone, or any age and any ability.
The pottery studio occupies one level floor and isaccessible. However, our toilet facilities unfortunately are not wheelchair accessible. If you are visiting in a wheelchair/mobility scooter please mention this at the time of booking so that we can do our best to allocate our most accessible table for you.
Unfortunately not. Due to quality issues we cannot glaze and fire pottery which has not been purchased from our own studio.
AVAILABLE SOON
Yes - vouchers can be purchases in multiples of £5, £10 or £20. You can buy these from our studio, through our website, Facebook page or by messaging/calling us.
We obviously always try our best to ensure every aspect of your pottery painting experience is fun and enjoyable.
The final stage involves glazing and firing your pottery at temperates which exceed 1000 degrees centigrade. This process is carried out at our studio and we treat each piece with the greatest care and attention.
We strive for perfection, but unfortunately the kiln sometimes has its own ideas.
Please be aware the sometimes items can crack or, at worse, explode in the kiln. If this happens we will of course offer you a replacement or a full refund.
Occasionally glaze spotting can also occur as well as imperfections such as tiny bumps caused by clay dust flying around the kiln as it heats up. We will try and fix any glazing issues but in the exceptional event of your pottery cracking in the kiln we will offer you a replacement.
We hope you understand that we do everything that we can to prevent this happening but unfortunately that is the unpredictable nature, frustration and charm of natural earthenware ceramics.
